Ellie I've listened to a lot of microtonal music, and I've loved a lot of it, but this one is very unique in that I just can't stop looping it. Something about it just immediately grabs you. Favorite track: False Colour (13edt).

about

An assortment of microtonal electronic music made to be just as fun as it is interesting.

Rather than focus on a particular theme, this album explores tunings in a relatively haphazard manner, with the tracks made as inspiration strikes regardless of how little they fit into the overall context. Nonetheless, there's a strong through line of exploring how familiar tonality can be bent and twisted in new ways without snapping it completely in half, an attitude I hope to carry forward into future music as I delve deeper into the ways unusual tunings can shape the music they're contained within.

Unlike traditional tuning systems from around the world which each have their own guidelines, the name of the game here is intentionally recontextualising familiar musical ideas in the language of esoteric tuning systems which lack substantial similarity to any existing musical systems due to their novelty. Essentially, putting familiar ideas into unfamiliar contexts. I hope you can enjoy them, and consider donating if you'd like to help me collect more instruments to create with!

about

Xotla Melbourne, Australia

My name is Declan Clark, better known as 'Xotla', a Nahuatl word meaning 'to ignite' or 'to blossom', the fusion of which is a beautiful concept I chose my alias in honor of. I spend my time amongst lush forests and diverse wildlife, which inspires the music I create.
I work with a mixture of unusual time signatures and esoteric tunings, and utilise instruments such as microtonal guitars.
